lhomme-arme:

Frye - Ave regina caelorum

One of the most popular motets of the 15th century… not to be confused with the antiphon of the same name. Based on this motet is a wonderful mass by Obrecht and a crazy Salve regina by Agricola. I might be writing a Salve regina this summer on multiple songs like this one. I’ve really been into polytextuality lately.

Hail, Queen of heaven,

mother of the king of angels,

O Mary, flower of virgins,

like a rose or a lily,

pour prayers upon your son

for the salvation of the faithful.

O Mary, flower of virgins,

like a rose or a lily.
