Frye - Ave regina caelorum
One of the most popular motets of the 15th century… not to be confused with the antiphon of the same name. Based on this motet is a wonderful mass by Obrecht and a crazy Salve regina by Agricola. I might be writing a Salve regina this summer on multiple songs like this one. I’ve really been into polytextuality lately.
Hail, Queen of heaven,
mother of the king of angels,O Mary, flower of virgins,
like a rose or a lily, pour prayers upon your son
for the salvation of the faithful.O Mary, flower of virgins,
like a rose or a lily.
