It’s difficult to believe that this piece was composed by a modern composer this century! Conductor Federico Maria Sardelli and his group Modo Antiquo deserve more recognition internationally for their preservation and experimentation on the Baroque style. Their rendition of Lully’s operatic pieces is also sublime and removes the stuffy pretensions other groups burden his music with. Sardelli’s Lully is alive and inviting because he interprets not as an academic, but an entertainer.

Pineapples were ultra rare in early 1700s France.
So rare that the artist who designed these tapestries probably never saw one first hand. The first pineapple grown in France was given to the King of France himself (Louis XIV).
